Welcome to Shamamama—a wandering exploration of the places, people, rituals, and questions that gather around death.

I’ve always been fascinated by the spaces where life and death meet: the rituals we inherit, the rituals we create, the ways we care for one another at the end of life, and the ways grief changes us.

Now I’m taking that curiosity on the road.

Traveling in my camper, I’ll be seeking out the people and communities who are reimagining our relationship with death—from green cemeteries and conservation burial grounds to home-funeral communities, coffin makers, death cafés, grief rituals, death doulas, and grassroots projects rooted in community care.

I’m calling these explorations Death Work Travel Notes.

They won’t be travel guides in the traditional sense. They’ll be stories from the road—part field notes, part reflection, part invitation to look at something most of us have been taught not to look at too closely.

Because death is not only something that happens at the end of life.

It is woven through our landscapes, our families, our ceremonies, our communities, our losses, and our transformations.

And perhaps the more honestly we encounter death, the more fully we can encounter life.
